This week, we had only one competitive fixture on the schedule. Our minors kicked off their season for the division B2 league away to Kilrea on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
In the first 5 minutes, Kilrea took the lead with 0-01, with a goal nearly conceded out goalkeeper Flynn made a cracking save keeping Kilrea 1 point ahead. Our lads found their feet and at half time were leading 0-06 to 0-02. Half Time seen two changes from the Doire Trasna side, Liam No.26 for Cathan No.5 and Liam No.18 for Jack No.15.
Second half opened with a couple good frees won and taken by Somhairle No.17, after the Doire Trasna lads found their way to opening the Kilrea defence, with great movement from Oran, Somhairle and Leighton going forward. This set up Shea Healy, one of our new players, for a goal chance and goal Shea got!!
Ten minutes into the second half, 2 changes were made to the team, Nyech No.29 for Dara No.8 and also Shaun No.20 for Shea No.10. After the changes came a goal from Leighton following another couple of points on the attack to put Doire Trasna further ahead.
A further team change was made Tiernan No.24 for Lewis no.11. With no further score from the Doire Trasna side, the full-time score was 2-12 Doire Trasna to 0-05 Kilrea.
We asked the coaching team what their stand out moments were for the game and their response was “overall, we had good possession, won 80% of the opposition kickouts and the substitutions made a great impact on the game.”
